Band

Prerequisite: Previous band experience required; no audition required.

Expenses include: marching band shoes and concert attire, plus other incidental items such as t-shirts and instrument supplies. This is a music performance class. Students will be required to perform in the Pride of Mountain View Marching Band during the fall semester. Students will work on rehearsal fundamentals, playing technique, breath control, tone production, instrument maintenance, and percussion methods. All activities, rehearsals, and performances outside of regular school hours are considered part of the curriculum and are required. This course meets the university requirement for fine arts. This class may be repeated for credit. Expenses include uniform cleaning, marching uniform shoes and gloves, in addition to other incidental items such as t-shirts and instrumental supplies.

This group requires the highest level of musicianship and commitment to the band program. Entry Level: Proficient and Advanced: Students must demonstrate knowledge of all 12 major scales, advanced rhythms, key signatures and times signatures. Students will work on rehearsal fundamentals, playing technique, breath control, tone production, instrument maintenance, and percussion methods. Marching Band is the focus in the fall and concert-style band is the focus in the winter/spring. Attendance is expected for all summer band camp dates and evening rehearsals during the school year. Attendance is required at all performances including all football games, parades, competitions, and festivals.

This is an advanced music performance class. Saxophones, trumpets, trombones, percussion, guitar, bass and piano are played in this ensemble. Jazz music literature, various styles and approaches to performing jazz, and other popular forms of music will be studied throughout the year. All activities, rehearsals and performances outside of regular school hours are considered part of the curriculum and are required. This course meets the university requirement for fine arts. This class may be repeated for credit. Expenses include incidental items such as uniform and instrumental supplies.
