Theater Arts

Prerequisite: None. The class is year-long; students may not enter mid-year.

This course is a year-long class and is the prerequisite to Theatre Arts 3-4 (Intermediate) and Theatre Arts 5-6 (Advanced). Students will learn:

• Theatre vocabulary and audience etiquette
• Theatre history
• The building blocks of performing such as vocal skills, movement, improvisation, and ensemble work.
• Students develop stage presence and improve their level of confidence through in-class performances

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Theatre Arts 1-2 and audition.

This course builds on the basic skills learned in Theatre Arts 1-2. Students will:

• Learn and practice Theatre auditioning skills.
• Learn basic technical Theatre skill.
• Learn basic acting techniques.
• Learn the process of creating productions for Theatre through the staging of plays for a public audience*.
• After school rehearsal and performance attendance is required.
• Rehearsals and performances are tied to students’ grades.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Theatre Arts 1-2 & Theatre Arts 3-4 and audition.

This class emphasizes advanced Theatre techniques through practical application. Students are involved in all aspects of play production, including design, lighting, sound, costumes, set and prop construction, and publicity. Students will explore advanced acting techniques.

After school rehearsal and performance attendance is required, including two Saturday rehearsals per semester. Rehearsals and performances are tied to students’ grades.

Prerequisite: None.

Students in Stagecraft will:

• Learn basic theatre vocabulary.
• Explore the process of theatre production, including hierarchy and careers.
• Observe and critique theatre productions.
• Learn basic elements and principles of design.
• Receive hands-on training with auditorium equipment, such as shop tools, intercom systems, lighting instruments, and the counterweight fly system.
• Demonstrate skill mastery by operating equipment at live events.

*Students will be required to complete a specified number of hours at scheduled live events in the auditorium to demonstrate their learned skills.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Stagecraft 1-2.

Students will:

• Gain experience in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions in SMAW and MIG welding.
• Be introduced to TIG (GTAW) welding.
• Develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to welding occupations.
• Learn plasma arc cutting, fabrication, and drafting.
• Develop leadership and business plan skills.
• Engage in community involvement activities.
• Safety glasses are required.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Stagecraft 3-4.

Students will:

• Receive hands-on training on all auditorium equipment.
• Participate in the theatrical production process by working on crews for productions*.
• Create unique designs for theatrical works.
• Demonstrate skill mastery through operation of equipment at live events*.
• Experience leadership through the mentoring of Tech 1-2 students.
• Explore theatre career opportunities through direct interaction with local industry professionals.
• Become OSHA certified in general construction workplace safety.

*Students will be required to complete a specified number of hours at scheduled live events in the auditorium to demonstrate their learned skills.
