MUSD High School Athletic Programs Receive AEDs to Support Student Safety

Marana Unified School District is pleased to announce that Marana High School and Mountain View High School have each received two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) from the Gootter-Jensen Foundation, strengthening emergency preparedness and helping enhance the safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff, families, and visitors.

The donation also supports Arizona requirements for high schools with athletic programs to provide AED access and for coaches employed by or volunteering at schools to complete a state-approved course that includes CPR, first aid, and AED training.

“On behalf of Marana Athletics and the entire Marana High School community, I want to express our sincere gratitude for the generous donation of two AEDs for use on our campus,” said Amie Cormell, Associate Principal at Marana High School. “The health and safety of our students, student-athletes, staff, and spectators will always be our highest priority. Having immediate access to this life-saving equipment can make a critical difference during a cardiac emergency, when every second counts and having an AED nearby can dramatically increase the chances of saving a life.”

Sudden cardiac arrest can happen without warning, including during athletic practices, competitions, and other school activities. Having an AED nearby, along with trained adults prepared to respond, can make a lifesaving difference when every second matters.

The donation was made possible through a grant from Angel Charity for Children, which is supporting the Gootter-Jensen Foundation’s efforts to expand access to AEDs at high school athletic programs throughout Pima County.
