What is the Arizona Seal of Arts Proficiency Program?
The Arizona Seal of Arts Proficiency Program recognizes high school students who go above and beyond their in-school coursework in visual arts, dance, theater, music, or media arts. Students who achieve this recognition will receive:
- A state seal for their diploma, administered by the Arizona Department of Education’s Office of Arts Education
- Recognition at MVHS Honors Night
- Recognition in the program at graduation
- Recognition at graduation through cords
Proficiency Seal Requirements
- Requirement #1: A final GPA of 3.0 or 4.0 in each qualifying arts/career and technical education (CTE) course
- Requirement #2: Four credit requirements in one of the following ways:
a. A minimum of 4 credits in one artistic discipline: (dance, music, theatre, visual arts or media arts)
b. 3 credits in one artistic discipline, and 1 qualifying creative industries CTE credit or separate artistic discipline.
c. 2 credits in one artistic discipline and 2 credits in a qualifying creative industries CTE class or a separate artistic discipline.
- Requirement # 3: Eighty hours of arts-related extracurricular activities during the student’s high school career
- Requirement # 4: A student capstone project completed under the mentorship of a Mountain View fine arts or CTE teacher
